Equipment Recommendation Tool

Equipment recommendations built around your training

Eight questions. A shortlist that fits your life.

Tell us your sport, goal, space, noise limits, mobility needs and experience. We will rank equipment by function—and explain both the reasons for and against each option.

Constraint-awareSpace, noise, joints and training alone all change the answer.
TransparentYou see why an option ranks well and where it may let you down.

Answer eight questions and this tool will rank equipment types against your room, your goal and your constraints, with the reasoning shown for each. It applies the same logic our articles set out — space, noise, joint loading, load ceiling and setup friction — rather than pointing you at whatever is on offer.

1. Where is the equipment going?

Commercial settings need equipment rated for the hours and users they actually see.

2. What sport or activity are you training for?

This sets the movement patterns and equipment functions that matter most.

3. What is your main fitness goal?

3. How much floor space can you give up permanently?

In-use footprint plus clearance — not the folded dimensions.

5. Is noise a constraint?

This is the factor most often regretted and least often checked.

6. Any joint sensitivity or mobility needs?

7. Experience level

8. Will you train alone?

This decides whether a safety system is optional or not.

This tool applies the same reasoning our articles set out — space, noise, joint loading, load ceiling and setup friction. It ranks equipment types, not products, and it does not know current prices or stock. It is a starting point for reading, not a substitute for measuring your room.

What this tool does and does not do

  • It ranks equipment types, not products. Once you know the type, the buying guide for that category covers the specifications that separate models.
  • It does not know prices or stock. Those change constantly and we do not hold live retailer data. To work out how a budget should be split across categories, use the budget planner.
  • It will not tell you something fits. Only measuring your room does that, and the in-use footprint plus clearance is the figure that matters.
  • It gives reasons, including reasons against. If a popular option is wrong for your situation, the tool says so rather than quietly demoting it.

This is the first version. It applies a fixed set of rules; a later version will score individual products once a specification database is in place.

How we compare

Compare Fitness Equipment does not physically test equipment. Our comparisons are built from published manufacturer specifications, the standards those specifications are measured against, and the trade-offs that follow from them. We say which figures are set by an agreed standard and which are defined by the manufacturer, because the difference changes how much weight a figure deserves. Specifications, prices and stock change without notice, so check the current figures on the retailer’s own page before you buy. Where we earn a commission from a retailer link we say so on the page it appears.
