Home Gym Budget Planner

Spend around the training you will actually do

Turn one budget into a gym that makes sense.

Choose your goal, space and household, then see how much to reserve for equipment, flooring, storage and the room itself—with allocations shown in your local currency.

Goal-ledStrength, general fitness, recovery or sports conditioning produce different priorities.
Room-awareGarages, flats and upstairs rooms create real costs that equipment-only lists ignore.
Regional amountsSee every percentage translated into your chosen UK, US, Irish, Canadian or Australian budget.

Tell it your budget band, goal, space, where the equipment is going and who will use it, and this planner suggests how to split the money across categories — then names the equipment types that fit. It exists because the most common way to waste a home gym budget is to divide it evenly across categories instead of concentrating it on the goal you will actually pursue.

1. What is the budget?

Bands rather than exact figures — what matters is which constraints bind, not the number.

2. What is the main goal?

3. How much space?

4. Where is it going?

This changes flooring and noise, which are real budget lines.

5. Who will use it?

This planner allocates a budget across categories and suggests equipment types. It does not quote prices or name products, because we hold no live retailer data and an invented figure would be worse than none. Take the split, then price it yourself against what is actually available.

What this planner does and does not do

  • It allocates proportions, not pounds. The split between categories is what goes wrong; the absolute figures depend on a market we do not hold live data for.
  • It names equipment types, not products. Once you know the type, the buying guide for that category covers the specifications that separate models.
  • It adjusts for the room, not just the money. A flat with neighbours below and a detached garage produce genuinely different allocations at the same budget.
  • It reserves budget for flooring and the room. These are the least interesting purchases and among the highest return, and they are the two lines people cut first.
  • It will not tell you something fits. Only measuring your room does that.

This is the first version. A later one will price allocations against a live product database; until that exists, quoting figures would mean inventing them.

How we compare

Compare Fitness Equipment does not physically test equipment. Our comparisons are built from published manufacturer specifications, the standards those specifications are measured against, and the trade-offs that follow from them. We say which figures are set by an agreed standard and which are defined by the manufacturer, because the difference changes how much weight a figure deserves. Specifications, prices and stock change without notice, so check the current figures on the retailer’s own page before you buy. Where we earn a commission from a retailer link we say so on the page it appears.
